The full release of Larian Studio’s Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken the gaming world by storm. With its detailed world, deep combat, and compelling cast of characters, it serves as the perfect introduction to the world of dice-rolling CRPGs. There’s a fantastic plethora of titles to explore if you’re looking for more, here are just a few.
Divinity – Original Sin 2
Let’s start with the obvious one. Larian’s previous title launched to critical acclaim in 2017, presenting players with a rich, detailed world, an immensely satisfying combat system, and top-notch writing. Despite being a sequel to the first Original Sin and the fifth main entry in the Divinity series, it’s an accessible entry point. Divinity is a remarkable series and a unique universe and this is perhaps its best title. If Baldur’s Gate 3 leaves you wanting more, there’s no better place to look.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Based on the DnD alternative, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous offers a rich and vibrant fantasy world full of consequences and role-playing options. This more traditional party-based RPG is directly inspired by the likes of Pillars of Eternity and the classic Infinity engine giants of the genre. An enhanced edition is now available on Steam, providing a cleaner and more polished experience.
Pillars of Eternity
Since we mentioned it, why not include it in our list? When it made a then-record-breaking $4 million on Kickstarter, Obsidian’s CRPG revival inspired a renaissance of fresh takes on a beloved genre of titles. Offering players a brand-new Infinity Engine-style experience, with RPG combat to master, characters to meet, and a world to explore, Pillars of Eternity is definitely not one to miss. While you’re at it, why not check out its 2018 sequel Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, too?
Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Baldur’s Gate 2
Though it offers a rather different – and decidedly more dated – experience, this list wouldn’t be complete without it. Baldur’s Gate 2, held by many as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, is an essential choice for RPG lovers. Its decades-old systems definitely take some getting used to, but it’s worth sticking it out to experience one of the most influential and revered RPGs ever made. The influence and legacy of this title cannot be overstated.
Wasteland 3
Here’s a hard left-turn from high fantasy and DnD. Wasteland 3 presents players with an eccentric Fallout-inspired post-apocalyptic world to explore and survive. The cast of memorable characters, deep RPG systems, and satisfying XCOM-style combat make this a compelling CRPG experience. If you’re looking for another immersive RPG, you won’t want to overlook Wasteland 3.
