Although 2023 still has a wealth of titles on the horizon, let’s look toward 2024. Details for many of the games set to drop next year are hazy, but there’s plenty to get excited about. Of course, anything could happen to these titles in the meantime. Delays, pushbacks, and cancellations are always possible, but let’s look at what we know so far.
Sony, Microsoft, and Nintento’s plans are still a mystery. While new hardware iterations seem likely, we’ll have to wait and see whether 2024 will see a PS5 Pro or Xbox One Series X Pro launch. In the meantime, here are some games that (may) release in 2024.
Ghost of Tsushima 2
Although we don’t know anything concrete, a sequel to Sucker Punch’s samurai hit seems inevitable. The PlayStation exclusive 2024 title was warmly received by both critics and fans, who praised its protagonist Jin Sakai, the open-world recreation of feudal Japan, and its stealth-based gameplay. While there may be a PC port down the line, we expect Ghost of Tsushima 2 will be a PS5 exclusive.
The Wolf Among Us 2
The long-awaited sequel to 2013’s moody, noir take on fairy tale lore was officially announced last year. The recently reformed Telltale Games are developing the game, though they announced that it’s being pushed back to 2024. The reasons stated were a move from Unreal Engine 4 to 5 and avoiding crunch and burnout. The Wolf Among Us 2 will once again be an episodic release, though the game is apparently being developed all at once this time. Stay tuned for more.
Although we don’t know a great deal about the upcoming Wolverine game, we do know we’re very excited. We haven’t heard much since that brief, minute-long teaser revealed the game to the world. Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank developers Insomniac Games are developing the title, which is a PS5 exclusive. Details are scarce, but this one to keep an eye. 2024 seems likely, though we may be waiting even longer for this one.
Death Stranding 2
Another game we know little about so far, Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 is certain to be one to keep an eye on. Following a typical series of cryptic and surreal trailers, the first game launched to mixed, though generally positive, reception in 2019, with praise given to its unique world-building and art direction. It’s unclear whether 2024 will see the release of this sequel. It’s possible, but Kojima’s games known have been delayed many times before. Will we see another star-studded cast? Only time will tell.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma has become something of a cult hit since its 2012 release. Originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360, the title has since been ported and remastered for modern consoles. The fantasy RPG blends engaging combat with compelling world-building and a unique AI companion system. 2024 seems possible for Dragon’s Dogma 2, though don’t be surprised if we have to wait even longer.
From a new Wolverine game to Telltale revisiting cult hits, it seems 2024 has plenty to look forward to. Stay tuned for updates on these titles and more.
